It was quite intuitive with or without the instructions and required only a minute or two to assemble. My last photo shows it folded, and I merely need to find a velcro strap or similar to hold it in its most compact form for the car. One could also completely disassemble for the most compact form, but then it would take precious time in an emergency to reassemble. So, off the bat, a positive impression. As referenced in many reviews, I have a beloved Aussie-Border Collie who is just shy of 15 years of age and whose hips and knee arthritis are catching up to her- despite the most aggressive veterinary care, though we still do a couple of miles pre-dawn around the lake, and she likes to wander around the enclosed dog park as well. Yet, the thought has most certainly occurred to me that she could just “quit” on me halfway into the walk, and it is unlikely I could carry a 50-pound dog all the way back. So, while a foldable garden wagon was one option, they take up so much space that I could not have it in the car continuously. This seemed the best alternative as it could remain in the back of my car while still letting me load groceries and the like. Plus, it would appear that for a lot of small cars with hatchbacks, once the back seats are folded down and the passenger seat pushed forward, the stretcher could be loaded with the dog and lie flat. The only question for me was whether I should opt for one with wheels, which seemed a good idea initially. But, I would not leave my dog unattended in the park and would need help carrying the stretcher, regardless, and I do meet other dog-walking friends at some point in the park walk. So, I opted for a more compact stretcher (42 inches x 8 inches folded) that would allow for two people to readily carry my 50-pound dog or another considerably larger and heavier (the stretcher is rated up to 260 pounds). So, theoretically, it could be used in emergencies for a child or adult able to sit up. Having it in the car might prove beneficial in ways never intended. (I hike trails in the Rocky Mountains, so snakebites and similar emergencies are always on my mind). I find this a very useful, durable, yet compact stretcher that I would feel confident in using to transport my beloved older “pup.” Yes. Absolutely. Recommend.
